I live about 35 miles from the city where the transmitters are located, with a few trees obstructing a clear shot from my roof. But since I was determined to eliminate our monthly cable bill and go with FREE instead, I looked at many different outdoor antennas and read dozens of reviews. I also found out signals in the air are 100% HD, whereas cable compresses the signal to around 70%. But you probably already know that if you're looking for an outdoor antenna...

Anyway, after weeks of research I decided to try the DB8. When we first cancelled cable, I was getting 16 channels using RCA's "best" amplified indoor antenna. After hooking up the DB8 on the roof and aiming it in the general direction of the city, I got 35 channels. I eventually added a Motorola Signal Booster to the line in order to get the local ABC affiliate that is a little further away, bringing the total to 36 channels.

Buying an antenna for your digital TV receiver? It can be difficult, eh? If you live in the city near the transmitters, it's fairly easy -- any small, truly omni-directional antenna will do fine (perhaps the Antennas Direct DB2). If, like me, you live 50+ miles from the TV transmitters and they're in different directions, it becomes a challenge. Here's some tips:

- No antenna is totally "omni-directional" (receives from all directions) no matter what the ad says. Every antenna receives better in one direction than another, and the high-gain antennas are the most picky. Your TV's rabbit ears antenna might do better than a fancy high-gain antenna if it's pointed in the wrong direction. If you buy a "uni-directional" or high-gain antenna, be prepared to spend a lot of time tweaking the direction.

- Don't believe the high-gain ratings, they're mostly marketing hype. There are independent web sites by antenna nerds that rate antennas fairly, so do some research... Read more

I live over 50 miles from the stations. The DB8 is the best antenna I have found for long range reception. It is tuned for the higher DTV frequencies and is resistant to interference. It will be much harder to get the same results from a combination UHF/VHF antenna.

With my previous antenna, I could only receive 3 Of the 8 HD stations in my area.

After installing the DB8, I not only got all 8 stations with 85% or better signal strength, I was even able to improve the signal on my existing channels by about 20 points.

For the previous reviewers who had a problem, it was most likely an installation error. Unless you live very close to the towers, it's kind of hard to screw up DTV reception with a high gain UHF antenna like the DB8.

Excellent price.
The instructions took some interpretation.
If you purchase this mount and intend to run your cables through the wall be sure to plan your installation carefully so that this mount does not interfere with it.
This mount can make your TV so flush to the wall that thick quality cabling might be too thick for the television to remain flush. There are spacers available in the kit, but using them adds another inch or so to the thickness.
Once it is installed it will be extremely difficult to remove so make sure you have it where you want it.

This wall mount is tailor made for the Samsung LED/LCD tvs. I recently purchased the Samsung UND8000 and was searching for a reasonably priced wall-mount. This product exceeded my expectations with respect to ease of installation, affordability, stability and look. The product was delivered within 3 days in an extremely compact package and I was able to install and mount my TV within 45 minutes. The only concerning issue I had was that this product requires you to anchor two wall mounts spaced 7 - 7.8 " apart. I was not able to find two studs spaced that apart in my living room. One wall mount is now anchored to a stud and the other is anchored to a dry wall. All the needed accessories are provided along with the product and this is a no-hassle purchase. Ideal wall mount if you own any of the recent Samsung 40" to 60" TVs.

This wall mount is awesome for Samsung's new TV's it is like hanging a picture on the wall. The two circles attach to the wall and then the rope is attached to the TV. This makes is easy to adjust and level. My only complaint is the directions are lacking, it's only pictures no words, but once we figured it out it was simple. You need to do plenty of cable planning though as this mount keeps the TV very close to the wall.

This flat panel mount is adjustable and very cost effective, an excellent product for the money. This arm comes with all needed mounting hardware for either masonry or wall stud mounting as well as a set of 4 screws for several sizes of panel mounting screws. It also comes with a small wrench for two different sizes of hex heads on the arm and an allen wrench for one of the arm adjustments. It is at least a two man operation to attach the flat screen after the arm is attached to the wall. I mounted mine on a stud in the wall. For stud mounting you use two of the six mounting hex head lag screws that come with it. It doesn't say exactly in the directions but you should use a 1/4" drill bit to pre-drill the holes in the stud. I would not recommend trying to use the included hex wrench to tighten down the wall mounting lag screws, you need more leverage to tighten it than it provides; use a crescent wrench or other longer hex wrench. I am using this mount for a 27" LCD in my bedroom. Using a swivel mount with tilt works great for almost any room layout. The black powder-coat paint matches the TV, and looks great. Adjustment and locking is easy with the included hex wrench. I would rate this "5 stars" if the mounting screws were better. Made from relatively soft steel, the screw head strips very easily. After ruining one screw, I replaced it with a large black deck screw. It might be advisable to drill small pilot holes before attempting to drive the screws.

Word of caution: If you do not drive the proper mounting screws into the center of a wall stud, if you exceed the specified TV weight limit, or if you try to get by with a really cheap swing arm mount, you may be signing a death sentence for your $500 TV (and perhaps yourself)!

I was hesitant because of the price but after looking at the reviews I decided to go ahead and purchase one. This is the first time I mounted a TV on the wall so I didn't know exactly what to expect. I put a 32" Toshiba LCD on it. Mount is strudy and has good adjustments. Installed it in about 20 minutes. Works great and I would definately recommend this for a low cost alternative for mounting a tv.
